History

Slash was born in 1990 from the work of Marcos Slash, a young surfer native of Asturias who soon found its vocation to become a surfboards’ maker. The contact with the few shapers who were settled at that time in the Cantabrian and the knowledge acquired visiting factories around the world led Marcos to form his own workshop in Salinas.

Originally the aim was modest: to make good boards for him and his friends because at that time, the few models which arrived didn’t always meet the needs of each surfer. That local environment would soon begin to raise the interest in the rest of the Peninsula and the Canary Islands

For several years it was necessary for the factory to have the collaboration of different shapers to meet the demand that was generating. All these connections contributed to the brand’s growth. It included linking up with the prestigious Australian shaper Simon Anderson.

Another of Slash pillars is its link to professional surfing. Marcos considers crucial to keep fit in and out the water to keep testing personally his models, but what it is most important is the relationship between shaper and surfer, paving the way to new innovation channels.

Nearly 20 years old, Slash’s philosophy remains the same: high-qualified professionals, quality of materials and the latest technical innovations in order to custom high level boards.

With the creation in 2008 of the clothing and accessories division, SLH Industries faces a new challenge: turning Slash in a comprehensive reference brand within the European surfer’s market based in the Cantabrian.
